This handheld bug zapper kills insects on contact. This zapper is great for getting bees and moths that invariably enter your home during the summer months. Moths are easy to zap as they fly slowly. Bees can be zapped as they struggle at a window, simply hold the zapper parallel to the window and ‘trap’ them between the grid and the window. Flies are harder because they are faster. Use the window method or wait until it lands somewhere and take a fast swing above the fly with the zapper. The fly will take off when it sees the zapper coming toward it and fly into the grid. Make sure you are clear of obstacles so you don’t hit something and smash the zapper to pieces!
This works as advertised, when it contacts an insect, you see a spark and hear a crackle sound and the insect is dead immediately. I have not tried to touch the metal grid myself (I figure anything with about 2,000 volts is something I don’t want to come in contact with), however hey, if you want to, that’s your prerogative. I have purchased a few of these for gifts. Everyone loves it! Get it prior to it goes up in price.
Don’t get the other “safety” 3-mesh models. They “backfire” in mid-swing prior to the racket hits the bug . You definately want the one that has ONLY horizontal wires — not a grid-mesh, especially not the triple-grid-mesh. This bug zapper is the only one I have found that works. And don’t expect your male friends to show any restraint, every man who has looked at it has had to test it to see if it will actually shock him. Yes, it does. Women don’t have this problem. (There are two buttons set quite far apart that you have to push simultaneously to make it function, so little kids are in no danger.) My favorite bug to zap is the little fruit flies that come off the bananas. Always so irritating, I love watching them spark and pop as they die. I find it VERY satisfying. And yellow jackets are the BEST. Maybe it is gruesome, however I must have given away 10 of them and everybody loves them!!!
